Description
This course is about Yogasanas, Pranayama and moral science.
Yoga:
In Yoga, we teach the basic philosophy of Yoga (Yama, Niyama, etc upto eight steps ending with samathi), then we will move on to Pranayama, etc.
The typical topics are as follows:
Introduction to Yoga: Definition, steps of ashtanga yoga, history of yoga,
Asanas such as Baddhakonasana, Trikonasana and Bharadvajasana, Utkatasana,Virabhadrasana, Parvatasana, Simhasana, Parighasana, Marichyasana, Natarajasana, Parsvakonasana, Utthita Parsvakonasana, etc.
Pranayamas include: Nadisuddhi pranayama, Bhastrika, and Kapalabhati.
Moral science:
Here, we teach various important qualities (morals or values) that we should cultivate. Example: Honesty (truthfulness), Humility, compassion, Simplicity, Gratitude.
For this, many stories from scriptures such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, Srimad Bhagavatam will be considered.
Objectives:
• To sensitize the students on the importance of personal character for a successful life.
• To enlighten them upon the right source of knowledge for this field of education.
• To clarify some of the good character traits.
• To understand historical incidents (from religious literature and modern history) that act as case studies and carry the role models of good and bad character so that the students are inspired to imbibe the good character traits.
• To train students to develop and maintain harmonious relationships among various members of the society.
• To help students to evolve into citizens of consistent noble character so that they experience undisturbed tranquility in all circumstances of life – one of the hallmarks of good education.
